Internal Bamboo Systems

BCL are currently working with suppliers and designers to introduce a new bamboo panel system for internal applications. There are several major advantages to this material over traditional timbers. Whilst having the appearance of ‘prime oak’, one of the most luxurious building timbers and at only half the price, it is also has exceptional environmental credentials.

Once harvested, the stems of the parent ‘giant bamboo’ or ‘Phyllostachys Pubescens’ re-grow to their initial height after only 5 years! In fact, regular harvesting of the bamboo branches has a positive effect on the overall growth of the plant and encourages the forest as a whole to grow more bamboo. This makes for an incredibly sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional timbers.

Although this super-grass is inherently unsuitable for external applications, due to its weakness to bio-degrading organisms, naturally it is an incredibly strong and impact-resistant material. This makes it particularly suited to ceilings and especially internal linings that are subject to human contact.

Giant bamboo harvesting is only carried out on large plants with foliage at a minimum of 5m from ground level and far away from the known Panda habitats, making giant bamboo ‘Panda Friendly’…
