John F Kennedy School had decided to provide new teaching and sports facilities to its students after winning an £8.5M government grant. The main focus of the project was to deliver the new buildings with minimum impact to the surrounding environment. Therefore an obvious choice for the envelope was a BCL western red cedar system, pre-fabricated and environmentally sourced, reducing the duration of on-site works and thus minimising the overall disruption to everyday school life.
As with many projects, BCL was used in its full ‘turn-key’ capacity, designing, manufacturing and installing not only the timber cladding system, but all insulation, membranes and steel framing system.
