The prestigious headquarters of the Lawn Tennis Association at Roehampton feature a complex geometry ceiling that has curves in plan as well as in section. BCL’s solution used prefabricated panels of 15mm birch veneered ply, which offered the flexibility required to accommodate the curves in the design. The timber was given class O surface spread of flame treatment, and a factory-applied lacquer finish, so time spent on site was minimised. The striking appearance of the panels, which featured bespoke slotted perforations, was further enhanced by the use of concealed fixing details – allowing the line of the ceiling to be smooth and uninterrupted. As with every BCL project, all timber was obtained from accredited sustainable sources.
